Native American Dream Catchers
Native American Dream Catchers

From My Photos
This is a picture of three festive dream catchers I made myself.

I made myself. I am part Kansa Indian and I have always loved all things Native American.  One of my favorite little novels is Cogewea, which is a story about a Native American girl finding her identity in the twentieth century.  I also enjoyed the novel Sacajawea, although it is quite lengthy at over a thousand pages.

There is a wide variety of Native American art work because of the diversity of tribes ranging from the northern parts of Canada all the way down to Terra del Fugeo in South America.  Since I am part Kansa Indian, which is a tribe of the Great Plains of North America, I am most interested in art work from this region.  Dream catchers have always been appealing to me, and awhile back I took a class on how to make these.  I made a small dream catcher ornamented with a blue star button, and then made my own variation of of dream catchers with faux rawhide cord and dental floss.

The objects hanging from the dream catchers are supposed to represent the spiders in the web, and I love the symbolism of how some legends hold the dream catchers will take away all your evil dreams.  Native American art of the Great Plains is beautiful with rich stories behind these symbols, and making dream catchers helps us to connect with our Native American roots.

Make Your Own Halloween Clip Art
Make Your Own Halloween Clip Art

Making your own Halloween clip art is a creative way to bypass using the same clip art images that come with most computer. Create you own Halloween clip art by taking pictures of spooky and Halloween like images, such as cats with glowing eyes and haunted full moons. Here are a few artistic photos I took recently that I have used photo-editing software to revamp into my own Halloween clip art.

From Halloween

Here is a picture I took of a cat with glowing eyes, so I simply added the words Happy Halloween in a orange font to make this greeting.

Here is a picture I took of the full moon, so I simply added the words trick-or-treat in an orange font to make this Halloween greeting.

From Halloween

Here I used a white font to great a ghostly delight of a greeting!

From Halloween

Here I used another Halloweenish font I used to create a fun Halloween greeting, with the beauty of the full moon as a backdrop. I am so delighted I was able to capture these images of the rising moon a few nights ago, which has spurred creative ideas for coming up with Halloween greetings.

From Halloween

An orange cursive font makes for a clever and zany way to say Happy Halloween. Use your own photos and Picasa editing software to create your own Hallowen clip art.

From Halloween

The full moon with the canopy of the trees above creates a haunting mood that I captured with the words on the greeting above.

From Halloween

Here is another picture of the trees and the full moon above, but this time around I used a ghostly white font. Orange and white fonts work best against the raven color of the midnight sky.

From Halloween

This moon hiding behind palm trees, oak trees, and pine trees does not need a message to describe its beauty, which is another great image for Halloween clip art.

From Halloween

Say hello to another image of the Happy Halloween full moon! There are many different ways as there are pictures to dress up your Halloween greetings with fun fonts.

From Halloween

The tree in the foreground, and the moon hiding behind it and the wall makes for another creepy Halloween image.

From Halloween

Beware of the rising of the full moon on Halloween. The full moon is very reminscient of Halloween, so get in the mood for dressing up and trick-or-treat by watching this video I made of the moon the other night.  I also wrote an article over on the examiner about turning Halloween pictures into e-cards and cards.

California Sunset Hour

California Sunset Hour

Taking photographs around sunset is the ideal way to capture the California sunset hour, which is that time of day when the sun rays dip below the horizon, casting beautiful hues in the sky. Drink the the beautiful images of the California sunset that I capture with my digital camera.

My American Bear Drawing:

This is a drawing of an American bear I made in 2003.   I created him by using simple colored pencils and keeping my eyes on the subject more than on the paper.  One of the best art tips I can give you is the keep your eyes on the subject and not on the paper, which will help you to learn how to draw more quickly.
